6 Tips On Choosing
Ceiling Fan For Home
|
Are you in the process of remodelling, renovating or
decorating your house? Have you had to choose new furniture
or structures to fit into the style of your new home? This
usually is a fun process, but it can get difficult when you
do not know how to choose a particular item for your home.
For instance, could you be currently facing the dilemma of
choosing ceiling fans for your home? There are numerous
ceiling fans available on the market and the fact that each
differs from the other, it can be confusing for anyone
trying to choose fans for his/her. Below are some 6 tips
that can help you in choosing the right ceiling fans for
your house.

• Efficiency and room size- depending on which room you want
to install the ceiling fan, you will need to choose a fan
that will be able to efficiently supply that particular room
with enough air. It is also important to know beforehand,
where in that room you will want the ceiling fan to be
placed? If the room is too large for one fan, you can have
two installed instead. The size of the room will also
determine the size of the ceiling fan you will need to
purchase. For instance, if the room is an 8’ by 10’, then
you will need a 30” fan. If the room is 18’ by 20’, you will
need a much bigger fan of around 52”.
• Height from the ceiling- for various reasons such as
safety and comfort, all ceiling fans have to be at least 7
feet above the floor. The ideal height would either be 8 or
9 feet above the floor. If you have a very high ceiling,
that exceeds 11 feet, then you could use a down rod to lower
your ceiling fan. It is important that you note the length
of the down rod so that if it will cause the fan to extend
to below 7 feet from the floor, you can have the down rod
adjusted to ensure it stays above 7 feet.
• Fan blades- the type and size of the fan blades will
determine the amount of air that will be circulating within
the room. Ideally, fan blades should be fixed in a 15 degree
angle to ensure that there is maximum circulation of air. It
is also important that your blades all weigh the same to
bring balance to the fan and to avoid any instances of the
fan wobbling. Do not bother purchasing any fan that has less
than a 12 degree angle as it will not be able to circulate
any air efficiently. The best quality blades should be made
out of acrylic or wood, and should be able to withstand the
effects of humidity.
• Light kits- light kits, though not necessary, do add a
certain classical look to your fans. If you are modern,
there are contemporary lights for you to choose from as
well. Different shaped glass such as opal and crystal can be
attached to the fan. Did you know that you can get custom
made lights for your fan that will blend in with your home
décor? You can also have up lighting which will cause the
light to bounce of the roof of your ceiling instead of
shining down directly.
• Motor- the motor of any ceiling fan is most important part
of the fan. This is because it is from this device that the
fans will be able to rotate and circulate air inside the
room. If the motor is of poor quality, your fan is
guaranteed to malfunction every now and then. More so, a
poor quality fan will also produce a continuous noisy
whirring sound that is irritating for most people. The best
quality motors are designed to work quietly and efficiently.
That is why when you are choosing a fan, insist to have a
look at the motor, and ask the store attendant whether the
motor has enough lubrication to work efficiently and
quietly.
• Finishing- what kind of finishing does the ceiling fan
have? Is it durable? Will you be able to clean it easily?
The best ceiling fans are those with a finishing that can
withstand fading, tarnishing and corrosion. Brass finishing
is the best finishing recommended for ceiling fans. Other
than brass, you also have the option of buying a ceiling fan
with a paint finishing, which is almost as superior.
Armed with knowledge from the 6 tips mentioned above, you
are in a better position to choosing the right kind of
ceiling fan for your home. |
