The History Of Ceiling Fan
|
Man has always looked for ways to keep cool especially in
extremely hot climate in different parts of the world. The
Egyptians are known to have used palm fronds to keep
themselves, and the royal family cool way before electricity
was invented. This need to keep cool is what led to the
making of ceiling fans in the 1880s when electricity was
invented.
The first ceiling fan was nothing like what we have today.
The British while ruling India invented one of the earliest
ceiling fans. The climate in India was different from the
climate in Britain, and the British found the Indian climate
unbearably hot. They suspended a light canvas the roof, and
a man was assigned the duty of pulling a string connected to
the canvas. The upward and downward movement of the canvas
acted more or less like a fan, leaving the house cool and a
tad more bearable for the British.
Since that time different companies have been manufacturing
ceiling fans albeit with a lot of modifications and
improvement so as to make ceiling fans that are more
efficient and economical when it comes to power consumption.
The use of ceiling fans has not been consistent. In the
1940s when cheap air conditioning was introduced, the use of
ceiling fans took a dip with most people opting to use air
conditioning. The market however picked 30 years later with
the energy crisis threatening to make power unaffordable to
most people and leaving most homeowners no choice but to use
the more economical energy efficient ceiling fans. Ceiling
fans are still popular today and can be found in most homes
today.
From using water turbines to power earlier fan models, we
have come a long way when it comes to ceiling fan history.
What we have today are energy efficient and aesthetically
appealing ceiling fans that most people are happy to have in
their homes. The ceiling fans are used in combination with
air conditioning, and these two have the ability to turn
even the hottest of desert houses cool and habitable for
everyone, even for people not accustomed to that kind of
climate.
For most homeowners in Singapore, a ceiling fan is a great
addition to any patio or outdoor setting, and will normally
keep the surrounding area cool without requiring any
additional cooling system. Homeowners can choose the size,
color, and design of ceiling fan that matches the rest of
the decor.
By looking at the ceiling fan history, it is evident that
ceiling fans are more of a necessity than a luxury. This is
not to mean that ceiling fans should not add any aesthetic
value to the house. The wide range of ceiling fans found in
the market today is a clear indication that homeowners want
more than a cooling system. They want fans that they can
install in different rooms or outdoor settings, and express
their taste and personal style. There are companies in
Singapore that are dedicated to selling quality ceiling
fans, and the good news is that they go an extra mile and
have the ceiling fans professionally installed for their
customers.
